Pradeep Kumar is the Managing Director of The Habitat Emprise, a firm focused on sustainable building design and consulting. With over 35 years of experience, he has an impressive educational background including a MTech in Building Technology from IIT Madras, BTech from IIT Roorkee and a Certificate in Sustainability Leadership from Imperial College London.
Kumar is a renowned expert in the field of sustainable buildings and energy efficiency. He has served in various prestigious roles such as India’s representative in the Asian Heat Pump Thermal Storage Technologies Network, member of technical committees like the Bureau of Indian Standards, and an energy consultant for organizations like the American Bank and Clinton Climate Initiative.
His professional journey spans working with esteemed institutions like TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) where he held positions like Director of the Centre for Sustainable Building Science and Senior Fellow. He has taught MTech students as a Visiting Professor at TERI University.
Kumar’s expertise lies in sustainable building design, green building rating/certification, energy audits, policy research, and capacity building. Some of his notable projects include:
- GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) consultancy for buildings like ITC Grand Chola, IIM Raipur, TERI University
- Green design for ITC’s cigarette factories, Fortis hospitals, IIT Roorkee
- Energy audits for SBI headquarters, Medanta Hospital, Pusat Sains Negara in Malaysia

He has worked on sustainable building projects across India as well as in countries like Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, and France.
In addition to his professional achievements, Kumar is a creative writer with published poetry books, has represented corporate teams in cricket, table tennis and badminton tournaments.
